Chelaé R. Cummings founded the My Name Is HIV Project in March of 2010. The project originated from what she thought would just be another one of her poems, but once it was released in October of 2009, it quickly turned into a creative educational movement and captured audiences attention.

Through her poem, “Hello, My Name Is HIV,” written thought provokingly in first-person, she introduced HIV/AIDS as a villain on a mission to destroy lives. Chelaé has collaborated on projects with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Radio One networks, health officials in North Carolina and Florida, and numerous government programs and non-profit organizations. She has made appearances and performed at Black Entertainment Television - sponsored events as well as was a featured artist on the network’s national award-winning RAP-IT-UP campaign. She is passionate in sharing this project with high schools, colleges, and churches.

THE MISSION
of the My Name Is HIV Project is to spread a message of awareness, prevention, and education on the effects of HIV/AIDS to the entire human population, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, relationship status, or circumstance.

OUR GOAL is to place a CD or DVD of the “Hello, My Name Is HIV” poetic message in the hands of every high school and college student and/or target audience, as well as provide educational information and product resources that can be used immediately to dispel myths and prevent the spread of this deadly disease.
